Nina Simone performs at at Symphony Hall.
March 16, 1986
Appearing at the Boston Globe Jazz Festival, Simone arrives very late and proceeds to give a short, emotionally distant, and somewhat uncomfortable performance. Boston Globe jazz critic Ernie Santosuosso later writes, “While the audience patiently waited, trumpeter Freddie Hubbard played the equivalent of two long sets in an attempt to cover her absence. As performance indicated, she should have stayed at the hotel.”
